John Campbell calls himself an accidental Self-Starter because he was a self-described “corporate guy” prior to launching MyVetwork.com, a huge social network built for people in, and associated with, the military. Many people told John his idea to create this virtual community of resources was a bad idea and wouldn’t work. It’s a good thing he didn’t listen to them. If he had, thousands upon thousands of displaced vets would still be struggling to find the Self-Starter in themselves and take advantage of all the resources created to help them move forward in their own lives – many starting their own businesses or new careers.
Although MyVetwork.com is no longer in service, John continues to do important work as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Wounded Warrior Care and Transition Policy at the Department of Defense. He never gives up.
If you doubt there’s a Self-Starter in you, think again. Maybe like John, you’re just an accidental Self-Starter who needs that extra little push after hearing the words “that’s a bad idea” or “it won’t work.”
Tell those naysayers thanks, but you’ve got to get going. Passion is awaiting you!
